By the Grace of G-d 5th of Nissan, 5719 Brooklyn, New York
Mr. Zev Litenatsky
304 Querbes Ave.
Outremont, Que., Can.
Greeting and Blessing:
I am in receipt of your letter of March 30th, pursuant to our conversation when you were here.1
Needless to say, you may write to me in any language which you find easiest. The important thing is that you have good news to report, both in the material and spiritual aspects of life, which, with Jews, go hand in hand together. For material and physical welfare is dependent upon spiritual welfare, and as has been repeated in the Torah many times, that if Jews observe G-d's commandments it will be well with them. That is why I was pleased to read at the beginning of your letter that you are trying to increase the scope of your sacred studies. Since we have been promised that nothing stands in the way of a will, and that Where there is a real effort, success is assured, may it so in your case.
With regard to your apprehension concerning your economic position in the future, especially after your marriage, I am surprised that you should worry now about these things. For, who can foresee what can happen within a year or more. Of course, one has to prepare a suitable "vessel" to receive G-d’s blessings, but you already have a profession, and so you should have every confidence in G-d, as far as your future is concerned; such faith in itself, increases the channels to receive G-d's blessings. Besides, anxiety is not only useless, but also harmful. Therefore, the Jew must have simple faith in G-d, the faith and security which a child finds in his father, which faith, as mentioned above, serves as a channel and vessel to receive G-d's blessings.
With regard to the date of the wedding, which seems to be delayed,2 my view on this subject is well known, namely, that I do not believe in delaying the date of a marriage once two young people have decided to get married.
May G-d, Whose Divine Providence extends to every one individually, lead you in all above matters in the way that is best for you, materially and spiritually.
Wishing you a Kosher and happy Pesach,
With blessing,
M. Schneerson
