By the Grace of G-d7th of Cheshvan,5745 Brooklyn, N. Y.
Greeting and Blessing:
This is to acknowledge receipt of your letter of Oct. 24th, in which you write about your brother Joseph.
Considering the enormous seriousness of intermarriage, I trust you and your parents will continue your efforts to prevent the tragedy, G-d forbid. Our Sages declare that one should not be discouraged even trying a hundred times in such situations. Nor should you limit yourselves to your own efforts, but should also get your good friends to help, preferably in a way that would not be obvious that you had requested them to do it.
A further essential point is to remember that members of a Jewish family constitute one entity, one body, where a benefit to one part is a benefit to all. Therefore, strengthening adherence to the Jewish way of life on the part of any member of the family, especially parents and brothers, in addition to being a "must" for its own sake, is bound to have a beneficial effect also on your brother and the whole family.
May G-d grant that you should have good news to report in all above.
With blessing,
M. Schneerson
P.S. We have no facilities in our office for writing in French. Therefore, the letter is written in English. However, you may continue to write to me in French.
