I have been wondering why I have not heard from you for a long time and it was therefore especially gratifying to receive your regards through Mr. B. about the work in general and about your work and activities in particular of which he spoke in glowing terms.

My Father-in-law once called attention to the unseemly attitude of some correspondents who write only about difficulties and problems, but when there is some good news to report they postpone that or neglect to inform altogether.¹ Needless to say it is not my purpose to complain about this matter but rather to indicate what the proper attitude should be to follow in the future.
