By the Grace of G-d27th of Sivan, 5739Brooklyn N.Y.
Miss Chaya Rivka Cohen
Blessing and Greeting:
I was pleased to receive your letter, and thank you very much for letting me know how you feel.
I am, therefore, sure that you conduct yourself in a way that is fitting for a Jewish girl, the daughter of Sarah, Rivkah, Rochel and Leah, the Mothers of our people, about whom you have surely heard.
With blessing,
M. Schneerson
Notes and sources
Below is the background to this letter as told by Mrs. Miriam Cohen (Rivkah's mother):
Once, when my daughter Rivkah was around six years old, I sat down to write a letter to the Rebbe. Seeing that I was engrossed in something she asked me what I was doing. I explained to her that I was writing to the Rebbe, asking him for direction in a certain area. “Will the Rebbe answer you”? she asked, to which I answered yes. Rivka then asked me if she too could write to the Rebbe. She sat down and wrote one line: “Dear Rebbe, I love you”. Around a week later a letter arrived addressed to my daughter, it was from the Rebbe. It was unbelievable. The Rebbe took the time to answer my little Rivkale’s one line letter expressing her love for him! Below is the Rebbe’s letter.
