By the Grace of G-d25th of Teveth, 5719Brooklyn, N. Y.
Mr. Elazar Kalman Tiefenbrun
23B Springfield,
London, E.5., England
Greeting and Blessing:
I received your letter of the 19th of Teveth, and, as requested, I will remember all those mentioned in your letter in prayer when visiting the holy resting place of my father-in-law of saintly memory. I hope to hear good news from you about them.
You write that when you get an opportunity, you learn a little Chassidus, I hope that this means that you are also, trying to create opportunities, even though you may be pressed for time. For, in this connection too, the Mishna1 applies כל המקיים את התורה מעוני (בזמן) סופו לקיימה מעושר (בזמן) so that the "little" Chassidus will become a lot of Chassidus.
In connection with the condition of your wife, may G-d grant that she have a normal pregnancy and at the right time give birth to a healthy offspring in a happy and auspicious hour.
With blessing,
M. Schneerson
Notes and sources
Mr. Elazar Kalman Tiefenbrun was a British-born Chabad artist and activist. He began corresponding with the Rebbe in the late 1950s, while serving as a representative of the Chinuch Atzmai Torah education organization. With the Rebbe’s encouragement, he deepened his connection with Chassidus, and later became a central figure in London’s Chabad community. For additional letters addressed to him, see letter dated 2 Kislev, 5718 and as referenced there.
1) Avos 4:9. "Whoever fulfills the Torah in poverty (time-wise), will ultimately fulfill it in wealth (time-wise)" – 'time-wise' is the Rebbe's interpretive addition to the Mishna's text.
