Greeting and Blessing:
I received your letter before Rosh Hashanah, but because of the extreme pressure of duties connected with this time of the year, my reply had to be postponed.
You write about the conditions in the high school of the Yeshiva in Montreal, wondering whether you should take a personal participation in it with a view to improving conditions there, perhaps as a teacher, etc.
Generally speaking, and as you also write at the conclusion of your letter, you know my views as to how you should utilize your capacities to the fullest advantage. However, if the matter under consideration is something which would entail only a minimum number of hours, that is to say, not commiting yourself to the teaching of a particular subject on a full-time basis, but only by way of making contact with the students of the high school, and in a way that would not interfere with your main purpose and objectives, as we discussed personally, and if, furthermore, it would be agreeable to your wife, you could discuss the question with the administration of the Yeshiva, who must, of course, make the final decision.
In emphasizing the fact that such a connection with the Yeshiva high school should not interfere with your main purpose, I have in mind not only the time element involved but also the unavoidable distraction both before and after the delivery of a lesson or lecture.
I trust that you have conveyed a report and regards from the Farbrengens here, to your circles, in a suitable way.
With blessing,
By Nissan Mindel
