Greeting and Blessing:
I duly received your letter of Rosh Chodesh Tammuz, in addition to the regards I received through Rabbi I. D. Groner, who told me that I would receive further details from you directly. This explains the delay of my reply.
In answer to your basic question as to whether to return to Australia, or to continue your work in the U.S.A., I must point out the obvious, namely, that the fullest success in one’s efforts can be attained only if the work is done with joy and enthusiasm, and certainly that it should not affect one’s peace of mind. These were also the conditions for continuing your work in the U.S.A., where you have met with Hatzlocho, and where there is certainly a wider field than in Australia.
To be sure, the basic approach of Jews is that of Kabolas Ol. However, this principle must only be the basis of the activity in the beginning, but later on it should give way to enthusiasm and joy, as mentioned above.
Judging by the information which was conveyed to me by Rabbi Groner, and as I also see from your letter, both you and your wife seem to have a strong longing for Australia, to the extent that it has affected Mrs. Wolf’s mood, etc. In the light of this, I withdraw my previous opinion, and leave the decision to you as to where you think you will have the greatest inspiration and most conducive atmosphere to have Hatzlocho in your work. Accordingly, you should decide whether you should return to Australia, or continue here in the U.S.A.
Needless to say, your decision has a direct bearing on the question of buying a house, which would also depend on the length of time which you would project to stay here, if you so decide before returning to Australia. Here too, my original opinion was based on the premise that your staying in the U.S.A, would be motivated by the above mentioned conditions of spiritual gratification and peace of mind.
