By the grace of G-d 24th of Marcheshvan, 5714. Brooklyn, N.Y.
Mr. . .
Sholom u’brocho:
I have received your letter of 16th of Cheshvan, and I will remember you and your parents in prayer, as requested, when I will next visit the holy resting place of my father-in-law of saintly memory. It would be well if you inform me the Hebrew name of your father’s mother, as it is the custom, in accordance with the Zohar,1 to mention the mother’s name in such cases.
You surely know that a blessing is likened to rain.2 When the field is ploughed up and seeded, then the rain makes things grow manyfold. And so it is in the case of a Berocho, especially when it concerns a Yeshiva student. It is up to you to do the ploughing - through the study of Chassiduth which purifies the soul, and to do the seeding through Torah and Mitzvoth and diligent study of the Torah in general, then the blessing will surely be effective to bring you success.
No doubt you know of the takono to say Tillim after davvening in the morning, in accordance with the arrangement of the Tillim for the days of the month. I trust you observe this custom, and are also careful with regard to Tevilas Ezra.
Your donation has been turned over to our 383 fund, in accordance with the enclosed excerpt from my message.3
With blessing
