By the grace of G-d23rd of Sivan, 5712Brooklyn, N.Y.
Mrs.
Blessing and Greeting:
Your letter has been conveyed to me, as well as your telephone messages.
Although I have made the suggestion to you before, I want to repeat that you ought to engage in some social or welfare work, to bring benefit to others. The usefulness of this kind of work is two-fold: a) It is the best therapeutic treatment for nerves, through diverting attention from the self to the needs of others; b) G-d regards all mankind as His children, and when one tries to do good to His other children, He compensates such a person many-fold by blessing him or her, and their children.
Needless to say, this is not intended to rule out medical advice. But the best medicine is preventive medicine, and such medicine has also the additional benefit of doing good even in ill-health.
I am sure that if you will make up your mind earnestly, you will find such useful work, and in dealing with other peoples’ problems you will soon forget your own, and certainly will be capable of resolving them.
I trust you are using your good influence to bring your daughter and son-in-law closer to Yiddishkeit. and it would be well to enlist the aid of mutual friends in this direction. It would be advisable for you to consult Rabbi Dr. Leo Jung,1 who I understand had occasion to meet your daughter and her husband.
May the Almighty bless you and your daughter with good health, and may we hear only good news from you in the future.
With blessing
