Blessing and Greeting:
Your undated letter has been received. It is not quite clear to me what the purpose was of your writing to me, and as you seem to indicate in your letter, you are also not certain about it.
However, since you have written to me, I will attempt to convey some thoughts relative to the subject matter of your letter.
You write that because there are happenings which you cannot reconcile with the idea of the existence of a Divine Being, you do not believe that G-d exists. This is a topic which, of course, it is difficult to discuss adequately in a letter. But let me just say that it is illogical to base the existence of G-d [on] one’s personal understanding of Him, since it is a contradiction in terms to limit G-d to human understanding. For this reasoning would reduce G-d to the status of just another human being. You can surely see how illogical it is for a human being to say that he will believe in G-d only if he can approve of G-d’s ways, and if he does not approve of them, then G-d is either wrong, or does not exist altogether.
Furthermore, it is obviously sensible to give yourself the benefit of the doubt.
I am certain that deep down in your heart you do believe in G-d, and therefore you believe also in the power of prayer addressed to G-d, including the prayer that G-d should guide you in the true path in regard to true Judaism as a living experience in the daily life.
May G-d grant that you have good news to report in all the above.
With blessing,
