P.S. On the basis of חזקה שליח עושה שליחותו, you surely know that I duly received the material you sent me in connection with your communal activities, etc. Nevertheless, I confirm it here for the record, and I thank you for your thoughtfulness in letting me have a copy of this document.

I trust that you will not take it amiss if I make one general observation apropos of it, namely, that in the area of communal work one seldom achieves much by removing oneself from the arena. The chances for achievement are better by continuing to fight for the cause inside, provided, of course, such active participation does not involve responsibility for actions that are in violation of Halachah. Incidentally, this is also a major bone of contention with regard to the unfortunate law of "Who Is a Jew" in the Holy Land, where it is in order to be in the Knesset, but not in the Government, especially in a Ministerial capacity and the like. The difference is as above: A minister, even in a department not directly related to religious affairs, shares in the responsibility of the entire governing body (similarly an officer of a municipality, etc.), whereas membership in the Knesset or similar forum gives one the opportunity to express, in no uncertain terms, one’s utmost opposition to anything that should be disapproved or condemned, etc.¹
