By the Grace of G-d18th of Cheshvan, 5728Brooklyn, N. Y.
Dr.
Canada
Greeting and Blessing:
After not hearing from you for a long time, I was pleased to receive your letter of the 5th of Marcheshvan. In the meantime, you surely have received my good wishes of Mazel Tov upon the addition to your family.
I read with interest the outline of your present activities in your new place. First of all, I want to say I am gratified to note the adjustment, particularly in the area of Yiddishkeit with a view to steady advancement in compliance with the principal that "all things of holiness should be on the ascendancy."1
Moreover, the great principle of the Torah, V'Ohavto Lereacho Komocho,2 can best be carried out by sharing with others the experience of Yiddshkeit, of Torah and Mitzvoth, which you surely are doing in your present environment. And while the situation in Montreal is incomparably better than it is in your previous place,3 nevertheless there is everywhere ample opportunities for new accomplishments.
I hope you are maintaining contact with your old place, both by the written word as well as in other ways, so that your accomplishments there in matters of Yiddishkeit should not only have continuity, but should steadily grow. It is always good to remember that words coming from the heart penetrate the heart and are eventually effective.4
Now that we are coming from the month of Tishrei with all its festivals, culminating with Simchas Torah, I trust that you have taken with you a goodly measure of joy with the Torah and Mitzvoth, to inspire you and yours every day throughout the year, and make the whole year a year of true joy.
With blessing,
M. Schneerson
P. S. I was pleased to read in your letter about your active interest in the Yeshiva, and your acceptance of the position of principal of its secular department. May G-d grant that the cooperation of all the departments will go a long way towards the continued flourishing of the Yeshiva to the greatest possible extent, so that it should fully realize its purpose in accordance with the wishes of its founders, my father-in-law and his father, of saintly memory. The Zechus Horabim entailed in this certainly promises Hatzlocho, and is a source of Divine blessings for all who participate in this sacred work.
