By the Grace of G-d 28th of Kislev, 5723Brooklyn, N.Y.
Greeting and Blessing:
I received your note regarding the question of your going to Yeshiva. No doubt your father, who wrote to me in this matter earlier, has conveyed to you my reply.
I want to take this opportunity, however, to urge you to apply yourself with devotion and diligence to the study of the Torah. And, although I trust you are doing so in any case, there is always room for improvement, and I hope that our exchange of correspondence will bring about an additional measure of determination on your part.
Having entered the auspicious month of Kislev — ushering in the festival of Chanukah, which is the message of self-sacrifice and dedication to the Torah and Mitzvoth in the face of tremendous odds. Fortunately, no such difficulties, not even such sacrifice, are in the way of one’s will and determination nowadays. On the contrary, there is encouragement and assistance, and great opportunities, which should be made use of with the utmost enthusiasm.
Wishing you success and a happy and inspiring Chanukah,
With blessing,
By Nissan Mindel
