Greeting and Blessing:
After the very long interval, I was pleased to receive your letter of April 30th, which reached me with some delay.
As requested, I will remember you and your wife and children in prayer when visiting the holy resting place of my father-in-law of saintly memory, in accordance with your writing.
As we are approaching the Festival of Shovuoth, the Season of Our Receiving the Torah, of which our Sages said that the Torah brings cure to the world, may these auspicious days bring you and your family an increased measure of good health and all good things, materially and spiritually.
Wishing you a happy and inspiring Yom Tov, and, in the words of my father-in-law of saintly memory, "to receive the Torah with joy and inwardness,"
With blessing,
M. Schneerson
Enclosed is a copy of my letter and message to the recent Annual Convention of the Chabad Women, which I trust you and Mrs. Jaffe will find of interest.
Notes and sources
Dr. Ephraim Jaffe (5681-5777) was a respected geriatrician and Jewish community leader in North Manchester. He devoted himself to Jewish communal life—serving as medical officer to numerous institutions, examining thousands of prospective immigrants to Eretz Yisrael, and playing a central role at Higher Crumpsall and Higher Broughton Synagogues. Through his brother, the famed Chabad activist Zalmon Jaffe, the Rebbe would often send him communications, and keep abreast of his activities. For additional letters addressed to him, see letter dated 29 Tammuz, 5713, and as referenced there.
