By the Grace of G-d13th of Nissan, 5722Brooklyn, N.Y.
Sholom uBrocho:
I am in receipt of your letter of Nissan 8th. Needless to say it is out of place to feel that you are bothering me too much in connection with the Lubavitch House. As a sacred institution it would have been close to my heart even if it were not Lubavitch, and even more so, as it is.
As for being upset perhaps something was done that should have been done differently, and considering this the cause of recent difficulties, such a view can only be the influence of the Yetzer. Your view should rather be as stated in the Torah,1 "for G-d tries you to see if you love G-d with all your heart and with all your soul." It is easy to continue working when all goes well and successfully; so you are put the test to see how real is your devotion and dedication and Mesirus-nefesh. But the purpose of it is to uplift you, for the word "mnaseh" also means "uplift" ("nes" meaning a banner lifted up high). The proof that that your feeling is induced by the Yetzer lies in the fact that it has caused some discouragement and doubt. Therefore, the way to deal with it is to redouble your efforts and overcome your difficulties and go from strength to strength. This includes, of course, everybody who has the cause of the Lubavitch House at heart.
The delay in replying to letters has a simple explanation; it is due to the pressure of work. Knowing who the correspondent is, it is assumed that the delay will not discourage him, and that it will not be misconstrued. I hope you will pass this on to all concerned.
Wishing you and all yours a kosher and happy Pesach, and a true Zmah Cheruseinu,
With blessing,
