By the Grace of G-dLag b'Omer, 5741Brooklyn, N. Y.
The Hon. Edward I. Koch
Mayor, City of New York
City Hall
New York, N. Y. 10007
Greeting and Blessing:
I appreciate very much your very kind gesture on the occasion of my recent birthday, by your official Proclamation designating "Eighty Days of Education" in the City of New York.
May this encouraging action inspire an increased awareness of the vital importance of education and help bring about a substantial improvement in the quality of education in all the five boroughs of this great City, and in the country at large.
Your action is particularly welcome and meaningful in light of the fact that our worldwide Chabad-Lubavitch movement, which I am privileged to head, has for the past four decades, since it made its headquarters in this City, found a conducive climate and a cooperative City Administration for its educational institutions and youth activities, which have substantially contributed to the spiritual and material well-being of not only the Jewish community, but also of the society at large in this great Metropolis of the Empire State, as well as in many other cities from coast to coast.
I extend to you prayerful wishes for success in carrying out the enormous responsibilities of your exalted office, for the good of all citizens of this great City.
With esteem and
blessing,
