Greeting and Blessing:
I was pleased to receive your letter of September 8th, as well as personal regards, through Rabbi Zalman Serebransky.
I was particularly gratified to note that although, as you write, you and your wife are third generation Australian born Jews, you have preserved the orthodox tradition of your parents and family, despite the fact that for many years, and until fairly recently, Australia has by no means been a center of Jewish life and tradition. It confirms the statement of our Sages of blessed memory that, "The heart of a Jew is always awake." I trust that, as in the case of all good things, where there is always room for improvement, you and your wife and children will not only do your utmost to preserve this fine tradition of your family, but will even strengthen it, and it will be reflected in a growing devotion and adherence to the Torah and Mitzvoth in the daily life. This is particularly important in the case of a doctor, and it is surely unnecessary to emphasize to you at length that the physical and spiritual health go hand in hand together.
May G-d grant the fulfillment of your heart's desires for good, especially in your determination, as you write, to do your best to uphold that tradition, and may you go from strength to strength.
At this time before Rosh Hashono, the beginning of the New Year, may it bring blessings to us all, I send you and all yours my prayerful wishes for a good and happy year, materially and spiritually.
With the traditional blessing of Kesivo vaChasimo Tovo,
Cordially,
