By the Grace of G-d16 Adar, 5742Brooklyn, N. Y.
To All Participants in the
Annual Dinner for the
Yeshiva Tomchei Tmimim Lubavitch
Montreal, Canada
Greeting and Blessing:
Having just celebrated Purim, everyone of us is surely still under the impression of these days, particularly in view of the emphasis in the Megillah: "These days shall be remembered and done... and (also in order that) their remembrance shall not vanish from their children." Here is an instruction as well as an assurance that the festival of Purim, with its teachings, will endure for our Jewish people from generation to generation, forever.
One of the central teachings of Purim is that the Miracle of Purim was brought about by the fact that "Mordechai would not kneel nor bow down" to anyone or anything that is contrary to the Torah and Mitzvos. Only when our Jewish people show such steadfastness and dignified pride in their Jewishness, even though being "dispersed and scattered" in exile (yet unified by the one Torah that unites all Jews) - are we assured of G-d’s help, in natural and supernatural ways; whereupon Jews achieve (in the very midst of the surrounding darkness of the exile): "Light, joy, gladness, and honor" in all aspects, both materially and spiritually.
However, this has to be "remembered and done." Jews have to remember , and remind one another of, the said teaching of Purim (not, G-d forbid, to be reminded by a Haman). And the most important thing that has to be done is to ensure that "their remembrance shall not vanish from their children." Indeed, there is only one way of ensuring this - especially in this day and age and in the present circumstances: Through a Torah-true education in a Torah-true institution of learning.
This brings us to the order of the day of the Annual Dinner for the Yeshiva Tomchei Tmimim Lubavitch in Montreal, which has - with the help of G-d and the help of its loyal friends - conducted its inestimable educational activities for the past forty years, and now appeals for your continued support to enable it to carry on its sacred work. I trust, and am confident, that each and all of you will respond most heartily and provide the necessary financial aid. In the merit of it, every participant will be blessed with "light, joy, gladness and honor in the fullest measure; and it will hasten the arrival of the true and complete Geulo through Moshiach Tzidkeinu, very soon indeed.
With esteem and blessing for Hatzlocho in all above -
/Signed: Menachem Schneerson/
