By the Grace of G-d 6th of Adar II, 5719 Brooklyn, H. Y.
Mr. Uri Judah Cohen
Burdex N. V.
Schieweg 56D
Rotterdam-4, Holland
Greeting and Blessing:
I received your letter of March 2nd, and, as requested, I will remember you in prayer for an improvement in Parnosso. Since you write that there has been some indication in that direction, may G-d grant that it bring a radical change for the better.
With regard to the education of your children, especially your son Abraham, it should be obvious that if at all times it has been necessary to fortify children with Torah and Mitzvoth during their formative years, it surely is even more urgently necessary nowadays, in view of the influence of the environment, etc. As for your apprehension how it might eventually affect his general education, surely when we speak of "The foundations of the Torah and Mitzvoth," we do not use this merely as a figure of speech, but we mean that the very life of the Jew is based on these foundations. Obviously the foundation is the most vital part of the entire structure, for what use is it to beautify the walls and repair the roof if thereby the foundation is neglected or sacrificed
You ask how you should use the check. I leave this to your discretion. The important thing is that you use it in joy and gladness of heart, as is expected of the Jew in all things, and this very confidence and Joy will bring an increased measure of Divine blessings.
You wrote that you approached the Central Jewish Council in Germany in regard to a subsidy for the publication of the Jewish History which should be faithful to the Torah and Tradition. In this case I would suggest that it would be advisable for you to communicate also with Dr. Ettisch, who is the spokesman for the Orthodox Jewish community of Berlin, and who corresponds with me. His address is: Dr. Ernst Ettisch, Guntzelstr. 59, Berlin - Wilmersdorf, Germany
with prayerful wishes to hear good news from you in all above, and wishing you and yours a happy Purim,
With blessing,
M. Schneerson
