Brooklyn, N.Y., April 21, 1964.
Hon. Emanuel Celler,
Chairman, House Judiciary Committee,
U.S. House of Representatives,
Washington, D.C.
Dear Congressman Celler: In connection with the House Judiciary Committee hearings on the issue of prayer in the public schools, scheduled to begin on April 22, we are sending you herewith a copy of a letter by the Lubavitcher Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem M. Schneerson, head of the Chabad-Lubavitch movement.
The Lubavitcher Rebbe’s stand on this issue is, of course, representative of that followed by the numerous Chabad-Lubavitch congregations and followers in this country.
Very truly yours,
Dr. Nissan Mindel, Secretary.

The above letter was sent to Congressman Emanuel Celler, Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee in connection with a hearing held before the committee on the proposed constitutional amendment to allow prayer in public schools. The amendment was proposed after the US Supreme Court ruled that it was unconstitutional to institute a prayer in public schools.
