Sholom uBrocho:
I received your letter of 17th of Iyar, in which you ask how you can better yourself, to the extent of being a good example to your friends.
Our Sages have given the key to advancement: “Try hard and you will succeed.”1 If you will be firmly resolved to follow the path of the Torah, Toras Chayim, and the Mitzvoth, by which Jews live, you are certain to succeed, all the more since in such a case one receives also help from On High.2 An important part of this principle is not to be discouraged by an occasional failure, for discouragement is one of the effective tactics of the Yetzer to undermine the will and determination. On the contrary, an occasional failure should call forth a redoubling of effort, and should serve as a spring-board for even greater advancement in Torah and Mitzvoth, and one Mitzvah leads to another.3
I was pleased to read about your participation in the Minyan, Shiurim and other good activities in the Lubavitch House, and I am sure all the members encourage each other to greater accomplishments.
I will remember you in prayer, as requested, and I hope to hear good news from you.
No doubt you are making preparations to receive the festival of Kabbolas haTorah with joy and inner inspiration, and may it be with you throughout the year.
With blessing,
