By the Grace of G-d11th of Adar II, 5741Brooklyn, N. Y.
Mrs. . . .
Monsey, N. Y.
Blessing and Greeting:
Your letter reached me with considerable delay. As requested, I will remember you in prayer for the fulfillment of your heart’s desires for good.
In general, it is often easier to influence grown-up children through enlisting the cooperation of friends, whereas when parents directly try to influence the children, the latter may feel that they are still treated as immature, etc.
Needless to say, the above does not mean that parents should not try to use their direct influence in a suitable manner, but it is more likely to be effective if it comes through a friend, or friends, as mentioned above.
I consider it my duty also to point out that since all blessings come from G-d, and the channel to receive them is through the everyday life in accordance with His Will, every additional effort in matters of Torah and Mitzvoth, though a must for their own sake, widens the channels to receive G-d's blessings in all needs. And, of course, there is always room for improvement and greater care in all matters of goodness and holiness, Torah and Mitzvoth.
I would suggest, particularly, to be extra careful in the observance of Kashrus of all foods and beverages, and to have the Tefillin of the male members, as also the Mezuzoth, checked to make sure they are Kosher.
At this time, before Purim, it is particularly timely to make special efforts in the said direction, since Purim reminds us of the renewal and resurgence of Jewish commitment to the Torah and Mitzvoth, and Jewish determination "not to kneel nor bow down"1 to any force that would alienate a Jew from Yiddishkeit, as exemplified by Mordecai.
Wishing you and all yours a joyous and inspiring Purim,
With blessing,
