By the Grace of G-d 10th of Sivan, 5735 Brooklyn, N.Y.
Mr. and Mrs. Yaakov and Devorah Tietolman
4915 Glencairn
Montreal, Que.
Greeting and Blessing:
I was pleased to be informed of the forthcoming marriage of your daughter Chia Dina to her fiance Yechiel Mordechai Backman — in a happy and auspicious hour.
You surely know that a Jewish marriage is called (in the sacred text of the "Seven Blessings") Binyan adei-ad, "an everlasting edifice." In any structure, the most crucial part is, of course, the foundation upon which it rests. As for the foundation itself, it is of no consequence what a neighbor or bypasser may think about its external appearance. What is essential is that it should be made of durable and fully tested material that is known to be able to withstand the test of time, erosion and all other elements.
The tested and durable foundation of the Jewish home is the every-day life in accordance with the Will of G-d as set forth in His Torah. It is the daily observance of the Mitzvoth and sacred traditions that has preserved the Jewish home and family, and thus the Jewish nation, under all kinds of circumstances. Such a home is a truly happy home in every respect.
Knowing of your involvement with the Yeshiva Tomche-Tmimim Lubavitch, I am confident that your daughter and her fiance share your world outlook and commitment to Torah-Judaism. I will remember them in prayer at the holy resting place of my father-in-law of saintly memory, and the Zechus of your work in behalf of the Yeshiva, of which he is the Founder, will stand you and yours in good stead, to have true Yiddish Nachas from them and all your offspring, in good health and happy circumstances,
With the blessing of Mazel Tov, Mazel Tov
M. Schneerson
