Blessing and Greeting:
I received your letter of Dec. 4th and, as requested, will remember you in prayer for the fulfillment of your heart’s desires for good - as HaShem knows what is truly good for you.
Judging by your writing and Yeshiva background, there is surely no need to emphasize to you at length that there is always room for advancement in all matters of Torah and Mitzvoth in the everyday life and conduct. Although this is a "must" for its own sake, since all matters of goodness and holiness, Torah and Mitzvoth, should always be on the increase, this also widens the channels to receive G-d’s blessings in all needs.
The above is reflected also in the Mitzvo of the Chanukah Lights which we kindle in increasing numbers from day to day in celebration of Chanukah. For, although kindling one light the first night of Chanukah fulfills the Mitzvo perfectly, yet when a day passes, one has to light an additional candle, and so on each night of Chanukah. This clearly and visibly symbolizes all matters of Torah and Mitzvoth (Ner Mitzva v’Torah Or1), in which every Jew is expected to go from strength to strength and, indeed, has been given the necessary capacities by HaShem to do so.
Included in the above is also the Mitzvo of V’Ohavto L’Reacho Komocho,2 the obligation and privilege to spread the light "outside," among our brethren who have not yet seen the light of Yiddishkeit in its fullest measure.
Wishing you a bright and inspiring Chanukah, and hoping to hear good news from you in all above,
With blessing,
