By the Grace of G-d3rd of Shevat, 5720Brooklyn, N.Y.
Mr. Eliezer Kalman Tiefenbrun
23B, Springfield
London, E.5
Greeting and Blessing:
I received your letter of the 21st of Teveth, with the enclosure of the Resident Medical Officer, which I received in duplicate, in which a medical report is given of your wife’s condition. It is clear that your wife’s condition does not at all preclude a normal delivery, and giving birth to a healthy offspring; all the more so that there often happens an improvement in the latter stage of pregnancy.
As I have mentioned to you before, an additional measure of trust in G-d, whose benevolent Providence extends to every one individually and who is the Essence of Goodness, brings an additional measure of Divine blessings. This is especially timely to bear in mind this year, the 200th anniversary of the Baal Shem Tov, who emphasized two fundamental principles, namely, the benevolent Divine Providence extending to every individual and in every detail, and also the idea of serving G-d with joy. Reflecting on this, every Jew can find that there is indeed very good reason for being in a state of joy and confidence at all times.
I reiterate my blessing for your wife’s normal pregnancy and for giving birth to a healthy child at the proper and auspicious time.
Hoping to hear good news from you,
With blessing,
By Nissan Mindel
Since dictating the above, I received your cable about the birth of your son in a happy and auspicious hour. May G-d grant that you and your wife bring him up in good health, to a life of Torah, Chuppah and Good Deeds.
I have also received your letter and request for a prayer in behalf of Heshel ben Hinda Raisel, and, as requested, I will remember him in prayer when visiting the holy resting place of my father-in-law of saintly memory.

Mr. Elazar Kalman Tiefenbrun was a British-born Chabad artist and activist. He began corresponding with the Rebbe in the late 1950s, while serving as a representative of the Chinuch Atzmai Torah education organization. With the Rebbe’s encouragement, he deepened his connection with Chassidus and later became a central figure in London’s Chabad community. For additional letters addressed to him, see letter dated 2 Kislev, 5718 and as referenced there.
