Blessing and Greeting:
I am in receipt of your letter, of May 15th, and hasten to reply to it ahead of turn, as you urgently requested.
With regard to the exorbitant medical and hospital expenses in connection with . . .'s treatment, you surely know that unfortunately there are many similar cases where, somehow, a satisfactory solution is found, though I do not know exactly how. But no doubt there are agencies and organizations that take care of such situations. There should be no difficulty to prove, by means of a copy of the income tax return, etc., that he is not in a position to meet such a financial burden. If you have no knowledge of such agencies, you ought to ask the Rabbi of your community, with whom, I believe, you had a close association, to get in touch with his Rabbinical organization to find out the procedure in such cases, inasmuch as among the many congregants there certainly have been similar inquiries, and perhaps the channels are already well known.
On my part, I will attempt to find out what I can, but this may take much longer than if you follow the above suggestion, for nothing is better than actual experience in these matters.
To refer to the conclusion of your letter, in which you mention that you were present at the Farbrengen. I already wrote to you when I was informed of this, and especially acknowledged your kind and thoughtful gift of the sculpture. However, inasmuch as that letter went through the regular channel, it usually takes time to reach its turn. Therefore, I am taking this opportunity to thank you again for your thoughtfulness and, good wishes. And as I wrote to you before, I am embarrassed by the gift (that took so much of your time etc.,) however involuntarily, in a way that I cannot reciprocate.
I therefore take the liberty to send you the enclosed, to compensate in some measure, from the viewpoint of a layman, for the time and expenses entailed in this fine piece of art.
With blessing,
M. Schneerson
