Mr. Julius Stulman

Larchmont, New York
My dear Mr. Stulman:
With the approach of Rosh Hashanah, I wish you and your family a Shonoh Tovo - a happy, healthful and successful year. My colleagues at the Merkos Join me in sending you our blessings.
Rosh Hashanah marks the beginning and foundation of the year. As a businessman and industrialist you know from experience the importance of starting off any venture on an appropriate basis, for the course of the venture will be determined largely by the start it gets. Similarly the character of Rosh Hashanah, with its spiritual stock-taking and resolutions, will have its influence throughout the coming year.
Rosh Hashanah is the anniversary of man's acceptance of G-d's Reign. It is our annual reminder that man is but a messenger of G-d, and that all things in man's life are subject to his primary purpose in life - the fulfilment of his mission.
In "time" there are the Sabbath and the rest of the week. The Sabbath is the day set aside for spiritual matters ("Sabbath unto the Lord"1). On it man is able to better appreciate his purpose in life and equip himself for its realization.
This year Rosh Hashanah coincides with Sabbath, and the combined message will surely bring us the proper inspiration for making next year a year of action in the fulfilment of our mission.
I wish you a successful year materially, so that you may be able to convert "matter" into "spirit";2 to infuse the Sabbath spirit into every day life and prepare the weekdays for the Sabbath.
To Mrs. Stulman and your dear children our added blessings for a happy, healthful and Joyous New Year.
With kindest regards, I remain very sincerely yours,
M. Schneerson
Chairman, Executive Committee
