Blessing and Greeting:
This is to acknowledge receipt of your letter in which you ask for a suggestion as to what should be your Hebrew name, having been named after two great aunts, Miriam and Leah, but your mother’s name is Miriam.
A Jewish name in such a case, according to the Shulchan Aruch, should be one that would be freely accepted to the person to be named. My suggestion to you, if it is agreeable to you, should be “Malka Leah,” which you may start using right away. It is also customary to have a Mi Sheberach made in shul mentioning your new Hebrew name.
The most essential thing, of course, is that the bearer of a Hebrew or Jewish name should personify the real meaning of the Jewish name through the everyday life and conduct in accordance with one’s true essence, namely being a Jew and living Jewishly in accordance with the Torah and mitzvos.
With prayerful wishes for hatzlocho in the above and,
With blessing,
