By the Grace of G-d 25th of Cheshvan, 5741 Brooklyn, N.Y.
Mr. . . .
Brooklyn, N.Y.
Greeting and Blessing:
I am in receipt of your letter and, as requested, will remember you in prayer for the fulfillment of your heart’s desires for good.
I must take strong exception to the general mood in which your letter was written, which also surprises me very much. Surely there is no need to explain to you that a feeling of despair, G-d forbid, is altogether contrary to the fundamentals of our faith and our Torah which is called Toras Emes, because it teaches the truth.
Considering that when the Torah completely negates most emphatically any feeling of despair, it does not speak of a situation where everything is in the best order in regard to nachas from children, good health and ample parnosso, but precisely when there is much to be desired in any or all these happy circumstances, and even if the difficulties are not exaggerated or imagined. For, a Jew is expected to see the truth, and the truth is that everything comes from G-d, whose benevolent Providence extends to each and everyone individually, and who desires and is capable of bestowing the true good even if a person cannot see it immediately. Indeed, recognizing this truth, and having absolute bitochon in G-d, and thus-serving G-d with Joy, hastens the time when the "hidden kindnesses" of G-d become revealed kindnesses.
Much more could be said on the subject, but I trust it is not necessary, inasmuch as it is fully discussed in the Torah in nigleh and Chasidus, as well as Sifrei Mussar.
May G-d grant that you should have good news to report in all above.
With blessing,
