The Honorable
Senator Hubert H. Humphrey
United States Senate
Washington, D. C. 20510
I was gratified to be informed by our mutual friend, Mr. B.M. Joseph, Chairman of the forthcoming Banquet of the Friends of Merkos-Lubavitch in Minnesota, that you graciously accepted the invitation to participate in the Banquet personally.
Your appearance at this important event will certainly go a long way toward ensuring the success it deserves. It reaffirms once again your personal interest in the work of our movement in general, and in Minnesota in particular, which, please be assured, is very much appreciated.
May G-d grant you continued and growing success in all your activities and public work for an even better America and a better world.
With kindest personal regards and
With esteem and blessing
M. Schneerson
Notes and sources
On July 14, 1977 Mr. Burton M. Joseph wrote to the Rebbe:
Dear Rabbi:
It is my honor to be the chairman of the meeting to be held in Minneapolis on Tuesday, August 16, to celebrate and to honor your 75th birthday.
The Minneapolis and St. Paul Jewish communities will be joined in this celebration by a host of dignitaries including our mutual and dear friend, Senator Hubert H. Humphrey.
We would consider it a singular privilege to have a communication from you in greeting to the group assembled to commemorate the anniversary of a great and historic leader of the Jewish people.
May all of your friends and admirers in the Minneapolis and St. Paul communities salute you upon the occasion of your 75th birthday! I am joined in this greeting of affection with your disciple and respected teacher within our community, Rabbi Moshe Feller.
With kindest regards.
