By the Grace of G-d 14th Menachem Av, 5734 Brooklyn, N.Y.
Miss . . .
Blessing and Greeting:
I duly received your letter of the 11th of Av and I was naturally surprised that my letter had caused you some confusion and sadness, as you write. Hence, I am replying to it on a priority basis, ahead of other previous correspondence.
Needless to say, such was certainly not the intention of my letter, G-d forbid. Nor do I see why it should have caused you any sadness.
The reason I refer to the lessons of the Nine Days is simply that it was timely and it is customary to refer to lessons of the particular period in which we are.
I also believe that young people can do a great deal more than others in the cause of Yiddishkeit and the Jewish people for two reasons: firstly, young people are blessed with the qualities of energy and courage and they are not afraid of a challenge — to a greater degree than older persons. Secondly, inasmuch as the major problem of the present day and age is the general confusion prevailing primarily among the younger generation, no one can do more than dispel this confusion than one of their own peers who serve as a living example of dedication and commitment to the cause of living Judaism.
I was also disappointed to discover that my previous letter to you had apparently not reached you. I do not know if the post office is at fault or my office. At any rate, I shall request the office to make a search to see if a copy can be found.
Now that the Nine Days are behind us, all good things can be carried on with unrestricted joy and I hope that this will also be in your case.
With blessing,
