By the Grace of G-d 17th of Teveth, 5731 (Jan. 14, 1971) Brooklyn, N.Y.
The Honorable John V. Lindsay
Mayor of the City of New York
Office of the Mayor,
New York, N.Y.
Greeting and Blessing:
Mrs. Schneerson joins me in grateful acknowledgment of your kind and thoughtful message of condolence in the passing of our mother and mother-in-law, the saintly Nachama Dinah Schneersohn, of blessed memory.
It is now nearly thirty years since my illustrious predecessor, Rabbi Joseph Isaac Schneersohn, and his family arrived in this great city and were warmly received. The center of our Chabad-Lubavitch movement was then transplanted in this great metropolis, where it has enjoyed every opportunity to carry on its historic destiny, which had been so tragically interrupted by the holocaust in Europe. In all humility may I add that the history of this great city has also been vastly enriched by their presence and contribution to its educational and cultural institutions. In the annals of our movement this period will be remembered as one of its most flourishing.
I extend to you our prayerful wishes for your good health and continued success in the exalted position with which Divine Providence has burdened as well as privileged you.
With kindest personal regards,
Cordially,
