Greeting and Blessing:
I am in receipt of your letter, in which you ask whether you should espouse the idea that the world came into being through a Creator, in view of scientific theories that lead to quite different conclusions.
If you pick up any book and ask yourself, How did this book come about? There are at least two possible responses. One - that it came about purely by accident. That is, there happened to be a quantity of ink, and a quantity of paper nearby, and the ink spilled over the paper in such a way that letters, words and sentences were formed, the whole thing being no more than an ‘accident.’ The other alternative is that the book had an author, who carefully thought out all that he wished to say in the book and then gave it to printers, who skillfully set up the linotype and printed the book, in accordance with the manuscript of the author.
Now, use your own good judgment and make up your mind as to which explanation you accept.
The universe is infinitely more complicated, systematic and orderly than thousands of volumes, with countless letters, words and sentences. To be sure, there are things in the universe that are incomprehensible, similar to those incomprehensible paragraphs in the illustration. Here again, I leave it to your own good judgment as to which explanation about the origin of the world you will accept.
I would suggest that you read the Kuzari, (of which there is also an English translation), where you will find further discussion of the subject matter which presents a problem to you, though I do not see any basis at all for having any doubts on this matter.
With blessing,
