By the Grace of G-d 28th of Sivan, 5724 Brooklyn, N.Y.
Greeting and Blessing:
I received your letter of the 18th of Sivan, and may G-d grant the fulfillment of your heart’s desires for the good in all the matters about which you write.
All the more so since we are soon to observe the auspicious day of the 12th of Tammuz, the day of liberation of my father-in-law of Soviet imprisonment and deportation.
Like all observances in Jewish life, the purpose is to be inspired of the teachings of the event commemorated. Anyone who is familiar with the heroic battle which my father-in-law of saintly memory fought single-handedly against a tremendous dictatorial power, risking his very life in an effort to preserve Torah and Mitzvoth and sacred institutions for Russian Jewry, cannot help but be inspired. That there is still Jewish life in Soviet Russia today, is largely the result of that selfless battle which my father-in-law constantly fought for many years and prevailed with G-d’s help. The obvious lesson, of course, is that efforts to preserve the Torah and Mitzvoth, with true sincerity and Mesiras Nefesh, must prevail even against overwhelming odds.
This emphasizes the duty of every one of us who are fortunate to live in a country and under circumstances where no such sacrifices are necessary, to do our utmost to spread the study and observance of the Torah and Mitzvoth in daily life, beginning with ourselves in our immediate circle, and continuing in the environment at large.
With blessing,
By Nissan Mindel
