By the Grace of G-d Lag B'omer, 5723 Brooklyn, N. Y.
Greeting and Blessing:
I received your letter of May 10th in which you ask whether you should change to Nussach Chabad.
As I have stated before, it is explained in authoritative sources that it is permissible to change from Nussach Ashkenaz to Sfard, and from Sfard to Nussach Ari, but not in the reverse.1 While it is generally advisable to change to Nussach Ari, especially as this Nussach was selected and ascertained by the Old Rebbe from numerous Nuschaoth which he carefully examined, nevertheless, this change should be done only if you have made a positive resolution to follow this Nussach permanently.
On the question of the advisability for you to acquire property for income, it is difficult to advise from a distance, inasmuch as conditions change from one country to another, and from one city to another. Therefore, you should consult with good friends who have some knowledge of real-estate. However, in view of your writing that you are not certain as yet whether you will remain in Manchester or might move to London, the question of acquiring real-estate can be considered only after you have ascertained where you are going to be, for if you are to buy any property at all, it should be in the place where you live.
I will remember you in prayer in accordance with the contents of your letter. Your Shiurim in Nigleh and Chassidus, and your consistent efforts to live up, most fully, to the way of the Torah and Mitzvoth, will surely stand you in good stead for the fulfillment of your heart’s desires for good.
With Blessing,
By Nissan Mindel
