Sholom uBrocho:
I received your letter of 3rd of Kislev, and the previous ones. . . .
On the question of the mortgage which, as you write, you have discovered to come from an all-Jewish firm, there is a very simple solution to arrange a heter isko, and in case of an emergency there is an abbreviated form which can be arranged easily and without loss of time. In this, too, you should inquire of a Rov how to put it into effect, and if you come to one of the directors of the firm with a ready "text," - a few words - there should be no difficulty about it. Needless to say, an effort should be made also to rectify the past interest which you have already paid. Here, again, the Rov will suggest to you a procedure which is valid from the viewpoint of the Shulchon Oruch, such as the drawing up of a note that the amounts paid as interest should be deducted from the capital (principal), with a back-to-back note restoring the original amount of the capital. It is not my custom to pasken Shaalos; this is for your local Rov to do. I am only mentioning a general idea, and although there may be certain objections, it will be satisfactory בדיעבד if there is no other way.
I trust an appropriate program for the students, boys and girls, is being prepared according to their respective levels to celebrate the 19th of Kislev and Chanukah, and may G‑d grant that the inspiration will be lasting throughout the year.
With blessing,
M. Schneerson
Your Pidyon will be read at the holy resting place of my father-in-law at an auspicious hour.
