Sholom uBrocho,
I received your letter, and there can be only one answer to your question. The answer is clear: A Jew, young or old, should arrange his life that he should be able to live according to the Torah which is called Toras Chayim, and the Mitzvoth whereby Jews live. This means a life of Kashruth, Shabbos observance, etc., etc. There can be no doubt about it, and it is surprising that you should even have to ask about it.
If there are difficulties in the way, it is necessary to remember that all such difficulties are in the nature of trials and tests, to test one's faith in G-d and the strength of the determination to follow in the way which G-d commanded. And when there is an unshakable determination, the difficulties can be overcome more easily than anticipated.
I hope you practice the good custom of putting aside a small coin for Tzedoko before the morning prayer every weekday morning.
With blessing,
By Nissan Mindel
