By the Grace of G-d 9th of Iyar, 5721 Brooklyn, N.Y.
Blessing and Greeting:
I received your letter in which you write your experiences in the past years. As requested, I will remember you in prayer when visiting the holy resting place of my father-in-law of saintly memory, in accordance with the contents of your letter.
I trust that it is unnecessary for me to explain to you at length one of the most basic foundations of our faith, namely, that G-d’s benevolent Providence extends to everyone individually and in every aspect of one's daily life. It is not always possible for a human being to understand Divine Providence, but it is certain that it is benevolent. This firm belief, as all matters of Torah and Mitzvoth practiced in the daily life, is a channel and vessel to receive G-d's blessings, not only in the Hereafter, but in the here and now.
As I see from your letter, you used to have activities in behalf of others. I hope that you will resume such activities, for in addition to giving self-confidence and being helpful to one's general peace of mind, it also gives one the opportunity for self-expression and fulfillment, not to mention that the good that is done for others is amply rewarded. No doubt, in a community like Manchester, there should be many opportunities to engage in useful work to strengthen Yiddishkeit. All the more so since, as you write, you are the daughter of a Cohen, who, in days of old, used to be the spiritual teachers of our people, to bring G-d's word and blessing to them. And nowadays, too, as you undoubtedly know, it is the function of the Cohenim to bless the people on Yom Tov (Duchenen), and they, in turn, are blessed of G-d.
I suggest that you put aside a small coin for Tzedoko every week day morning, Bli Neder, and then say a short prayer, such as the Shema, a Psalm from Tillim, or the like. Needless to say, a prayer should be said also on Shabbos and Yom Tov.
Hoping to receive good news from you,
With Blessing,
By (Secretary)
